In a significant move aimed at improving the welfare of public servants, the Federal Government has approved an upward review of allowances for officers in the public service. Key allowances under review include Duty Tour Allowance, Transport Allowance, Uniform Allowance, and Overtime Allowance.
This decision was made during the 46th meeting of the National Council on Establishment (NCE), which is chaired by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack. The NCE, as the highest policy-making body for public service matters, brings together the Heads of Service from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The meeting followed a two-day technical session, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Service Policies and Strategies Office, with participation from permanent secretaries and directors of establishments across the nation.
Out of the 32 memoranda reviewed during the meeting, six were approved, including the upward revision of allowances for public service officers. The report also confirmed a comprehensive review of the Schemes of Service to align with the Council’s decisions.
This approval marks a crucial step toward improving the financial conditions of public officers, boosting morale, and enhancing service delivery across the country.
