FCTA begins demolition of 50 illegal structures in Lugbe

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has demolished over 50 illegal structures in Gosa, Lugbe, and Apo Tarfi, majorly in Phase V of the Federal Capital City.
The Director of the FCT Department of Development Control, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, made this disclosure yesterday while leading a demolition squad to remove another set of ten illegal buildings in Sabon Lugbe, also part of the Federal Capital City, Phase V.

According to him, the affected structures did not have the necessary development approvals, and therefore, they have been demolished.

He said, “This continues the Department’s reinvigorated enforcement exercise to mitigate land use contraventions, especially in notorious land grabbing spots in Lugbe, Idu Train Station, Gosa, Kyami, and Apo Tarfi.

“We are here for a removal exercise today at Sabon Lugbe Southwest area, which is part of the Federal Capital City Phase V (FCC). We just started with about 10 structures, but we are coming back in full swing tomorrow.”

He recalled that sometimes back, “We warned that we were going to bounce on land grabbers. So this is in continuation of the enforcement exercise, which had started. We want to inform the general public that for any person to buy any property in Abuja, please ensure that it is a rightly titled property with an approved development plan. Failing to do so, you could fall into the hands of these land grabbers, and please don’t blame the FCTA.”

The Director stated that the unsuspecting public was being deceived into believing they would be part of the new Phase V.

“The people deceiving them that they will be integrated into the Phase V of the FCC should be warned and beware. There is nothing like integration. Illegality is illegality, and we will continue removing them,” he vowed.
