The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has filed criminal charges against MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, its Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, and other top executives for allegedly obstructing an ongoing investigation and failing to comply with official summons.
The charges, contained in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CR/197/2025, were filed by the FCCPC’s legal team led by Barrister Nsitem Chizenum.
This legal action comes on the heels of a ruling delivered on May 8, 2025, by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which dismissed a lawsuit filed by MultiChoice Nigeria. The company had sought legal backing for its recent price hikes on DStv and GOtv subscription services in the country.
The commission’s decision to press charges signals a significant step in its regulatory efforts to hold service providers accountable for consumer protection violations and compliance failures.
