The father of Timilehin Ajayi, the gospel singer arrested for the murder of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Salome Adaidu, has appealed for his son’s release. Ajayi is currently remanded in custody by a Nasarawa State High Court after being found in possession of Adaidu’s severed head, which was discovered in a polythene bag.
The tragic incident took place in Agwan Sarki, Orozo, a community located near the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Ajayi, who had gained some recognition in the gospel music scene following the release of his 2020 album God of the Earth, confessed to the crime during his interrogation. He claimed that a heated argument between him and Adaidu, with whom he had been in a relationship for over a year, escalated into violence when Adaidu allegedly attempted to stab him with a knife.
While the family of the deceased continues to mourn, Ajayi’s father has made a public plea for his son’s release, calling on the government to intervene. In an interview with Channels Television, he said, “I want the government to help me so that the matter is settled. I want them to help me beg so that he is released.”
However, Ajayi’s mother has expressed a different sentiment, stating that she has left the matter entirely in the hands of the authorities. Reflecting on the tragedy, she asked, “If it was one of my daughters they did that to, how would I feel?” She added, “So government can do anything they want to do. Everything is in their hands.”
Ajayi also revealed in a now-viral video that the rest of Adaidu’s body was at his residence. Following the discovery of her remains, Adaidu was laid to rest in a ceremony that was captured on video, with mournful weeping heard in the background. The case remains under investigation, with authorities continuing to handle the situation.
