Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has strongly rejected claims that she received bribes to support Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In a pointed statement released via her verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Ezekwesili described the accusations as “baseless” and “laughable falsehoods.”
The allegations, made by UK-based activist Sandra Duru, also known as Professor Mgbeke, suggested that Akpoti-Uduaghan fabricated the harassment claims and accused Ezekwesili of being paid to back them. However, Ezekwesili swiftly dismissed the claims, reaffirming her unwavering stance on justice, transparency, and incorruptibility.
“No sensible person who knows my track record is deceived by these ridiculous fabrications,” Ezekwesili responded. “No amount of money can sway my convictions or silence my voice on any matter I choose to support.”
Ezekwesili reiterated her strong support for Akpoti-Uduaghan, emphasizing that her backing is rooted in principle, not political or personal interests. She called on Nigerians to demand a fair and independent investigation into the allegations against Akpabio, urging the public to stand firm against any attempts to discredit the Senator or silence her voice.
Echoing her commitment to a just Nigeria, Ezekwesili condemned the selfishness and corruption within the political class, stating that public service and sacrifice are concepts alien to many politicians. “I will continue to live a purpose-driven life, in the relentless fight for a decent and just Nigeria,” she concluded.
The controversy surrounding the allegations has drawn significant public attention, further igniting the debate over accountability in Nigeria’s highest legislative office.
