ESUT sacks 6 senior staff for forgery, corruption

The management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has sacked six senior staff of the institution for alleged criminal offences bordering on forgery and corruption.

Vice Chancellor of ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie at a press briefing yesterday, on the outcome of the just held Governing Council meeting.

Okolie also disclosed that another staff member, who was on suspension for disseminating false information was recalled but that she would forfeit her half salary for the period of the suspension.

He explained that the action was in furtherance of the institution’s bid to enthrone ethical values and ensure probity among staff at all levels, stressing that there was no room for corruption, dereliction of duty and fraudulent practices among the employees.

He listed the dismissed staff to include: Izuchukwu Ifeanyi Eze of the Educational Foundation Unit; Ezekiel Nnadi of the Quantity Surveying Department; and Ani Celestine Okafor of the Human Physiology Department.

Others are Chidiebere Emmanuel Eze, Industrial Chemistry; Fanny Ngozi Onyia of the Institute of Peace, Conflict and Development Studies as well as Mr Chiuzor Isaac Okoh of the Bursary unit.

“Augustina Ifebuche Ugwu of Applied Microbiology and Brewing was issued a letter of warning and recalled to her duty but would forfeit her half salary during her period of suspension.

“Izuchukwu Ifeanyi Eze was sacked for certificate forgery; Dr Ezekiel Nnadi was dismissed from service over academic fraud including manipulation of results, extortion, sexual harassment and other grave misconducts.

“Ani Celestine Okafor was sacked because he is keeping two full-time jobs. He works in SUMAS and ESUT, while a similar crime was also perpetrated by Dr Chidiebere Emmanuel Eze.

“Fanny Ngozi Onyia was involved in the preparation of a fake transcript and was dismissed. She is to refund ₦107, 000.00 to Chinyere Faustina Onyechi, who she defrauded, while Chibuzor Isaac Okoh’s employment with ESUT was terminated after he misappropriated about N98.3 million.

“Augustina Ifebuche Ugwu was recalled after serving a suspension with a warning letter for conveying false information to an ex-student that he had Second Class Honours (Upper Division) instead of Second Class Honours (Lower Division). She will forfeit her half salary,” the VC said.

He further disclosed that the university management would prosecute the affected staff or hand them to anti-graft agencies. They would also be made to refund every money they acquired illegally as a result of their fraudulent practices.
