Elon Musk Slams Trump-Backed Spending Bill as “Disgusting Abomination”

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has launched a scathing critique of a massive tax and spending bill championed by former President Donald Trump, describing it as a “disgusting abomination” that betrays fiscal responsibility.

The legislation, recently passed by the House of Representatives, includes sweeping tax breaks, increased defense spending, and a significant expansion of government borrowing. Analysts warn the measure could add approximately $600 billion to the federal deficit in the upcoming fiscal year.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk did not mince words:

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

Musk’s sharp remarks come just a day before stepping down from his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a temporary position he held for four months. His appointment had drawn significant attention due to his close ties with Trump, sparking speculation about his sudden departure.

However, in an official statement from the X CEO account, Musk’s exit was clarified as procedural rather than personal.

“In the coming days, legacy media will try to convince you that President Trump and Elon Musk are no longer friends and that’s why Musk left,” the post stated. “What they won’t tell you is that Elon was a Special Government Employee, limited to 130 days of service and that term ends tomorrow.”

Before his resignation, Musk expressed deep frustration that the bill undermined the very mission of the DOGE team — to streamline government spending and reduce inefficiencies.

“I think a bill can be big, or it can be beautiful,” Musk said. “But I don’t know if it can be both, in my personal opinion.”

The controversy adds a dramatic chapter to Musk’s brief but high-profile involvement in government reform efforts, and raises fresh questions about the long-term direction of fiscal policy under Trump’s influence.
