Elon Musk Denies SpaceX Involvement in Trump’s ‘Golden Dome’ Missile Defense Project

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has denied reports linking his aerospace company to the development of the proposed ‘Golden Dome’ missile defense system reportedly being considered by former U.S. President Donald Trump as part of a broader national security strategy.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Musk clarified that SpaceX is not bidding for any contract related to the defense project and has not been approached officially.

“SpaceX has not tried to bid for any contract in this regard,” Musk stated. “Our strong preference would be to stay focused on taking humanity to Mars. If the President asks us to help in this regard, we will do so, but I hope that other companies (not SpaceX) can do this.”

The clarification came amid growing online speculation that SpaceX, alongside two unnamed firms, was in the running for a significant role in developing the ‘Golden Dome’—a missile shield system said to mirror Israel’s Iron Dome, but designed to counter long-range missile threats.

The proposed Golden Dome is believed to be a key component of Trump’s defense vision, should he return to office, with an emphasis on advanced interception technologies to enhance U.S. homeland security.

While Musk did not rule out the possibility of SpaceX supporting the project if requested, his message emphasized a preference to keep the company’s focus on its core mission of space exploration and interplanetary travel.
