Tesla CEO Elon Musk has publicly slammed Peter Navarro, a former senior White House trade advisor, calling him “truly a moron” and “dumber than a sack of bricks” amid growing tensions over Donald Trump’s protectionist trade policies.
The sharp rebuke followed a televised remark by Navarro, who dismissed Tesla as “not a car manufacturer” but merely “a car assembler,” accusing the company of relying heavily on imported parts such as batteries, electronics, and tires.
In response, Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter):
“Tesla has the most American-made cars. Navarro is dumber than a sack of bricks.”
The tech billionaire, who has recently advocated for a free-trade zone between North America and Europe, has voiced growing concern over the economic implications of Trump’s proposed tariff increases. These new tariffs have triggered market volatility and raised fears of a global recession, even as the former president maintains a hardline trade stance, despite backlash from international partners and dissent within his own party.
Musk’s clash with Navarro underscores a widening rift between industry leaders and Trump-aligned economic strategists over the future of U.S. trade policy.
