El-Rufai Slams Tinubu’s Government, Calls it the “Most Corrupt” in Nigeria’s Democratic History

Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, calling it the “most corrupt and intolerant” government Nigeria has experienced since the return to democracy in 1999.

Speaking with journalists in Katsina, El-Rufai condemned the federal government’s handling of the country’s security challenges, accusing it of relying on propaganda to cover up its failures. “This is the most corrupt and most intolerant government in Nigeria. It is also the most dishonest, depending on false propaganda,” he said.

El-Rufai, who was in Katsina to sympathize with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda over the death of his mother, dismissed claims by the federal government that security conditions had improved. He pointed out that several communities in Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto states remain severely affected by insecurity.

“In Kaduna, Dogo Gide is still at large, Mallam Abba, the Boko Haram terrorist, is still alive, and Bello Turji continues his operations. Yet every day, they announce names of so-called bandit leaders that have been killed and claim security has improved,” he stated.

The former FCT minister also questioned the government’s credibility, highlighting the ongoing presence of notorious terrorist leaders in northern Nigeria. He called attention to the bandits’ continued control over local governments in states like Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto.

“How many local governments in Katsina State are occupied by bandits? How many in Zamfara and parts of Sokoto? Just because you are in government doesn’t mean things will get better,” El-Rufai remarked.

On the political front, El-Rufai discussed his future plans, aligning himself with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which he believes holds the integrity to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

“This is the worst Federal Government in Nigerian history, and all the indices confirm it,” El-Rufai concluded.
