Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has no realistic path to re-election in 2027, citing Nigeria’s current economic and political conditions.
Speaking during an interview on National Updates, a programme affiliated with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and shared online by user @chude, El-Rufai expressed deep skepticism about Tinubu’s political future.
“Anybody that thinks it is possible for President Bola Tinubu to get re-elected is living in another country, not Nigeria. It is impossible for Bola Tinubu to get re-elected. I don’t see a pathway for him, no matter how disorganised the opposition is. Who will vote for him? But that’s my own opinion,” El-Rufai stated.
His remarks come amid a series of endorsements for President Tinubu within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Earlier, Senate President Godswill Akpabio had declared Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate of the party and expressed strong confidence in his re-election. Additionally, APC governors unanimously endorsed the president during the party’s strategic summit in Abuja, reaffirming their commitment to his leadership.
El-Rufai’s comments have stirred political discourse, with many viewing his position as a reflection of growing internal tensions within the ruling party.
