The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed that human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi is in their custody.

Mr. Sunday Abutu, the Command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement released on Monday night in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Farotimi’s whereabouts had sparked public concern after reports of his arrest surfaced earlier in the day.

According to the statement, the lawyer is being investigated following a petition submitted to the Office of the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State. The petition accuses Farotimi of defamation and cyberbullying.

“The Ekiti State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that Mr. Dele Farotimi is undergoing investigation following a petition written against him for allegations of defamation of character and cyberbullying,” the statement read in part.

The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected from the police.
