The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of two popular TikTok personalities, Babatunde Peter Olaitan (aka Tee Dollar) and Tobilola Olamide (aka TobiNation), for abusing the Nigerian currency.

Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on May 8, 2025, sentenced both individuals to six months’ imprisonment each, with an option of a ₦200,000 fine.

The EFCC had arrested the duo after they were seen in a viral TikTok video spraying ₦200 notes during a social event held on April 8, 2025, at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi.

The agency said both individuals violated Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007, which prohibits tampering with Nigerian currency. Video footage and their confessional statements were admitted in court as evidence.

According to the charge against Olaitan:

“You, BABATUNDE PETER OLAITAN, on 8th April 2025… whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of ₦200… by spraying it, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”

The same charge was read to Olamide, to which both defendants pleaded guilty.

The EFCC emphasized that this conviction serves as a stern warning to individuals who abuse the national currency, especially on social media platforms.

Their sentencing is part of the commission’s broader crackdown on Naira abuse, which has led to multiple arrests and prosecutions in recent months.
