Abuja, Nigeria – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has interrogated former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over allegations of misappropriation, procurement violations, and the diversion of public funds amounting to ₦138,413,253.89.
Sources confirm that Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters on Thursday at 11:00 AM and has been undergoing intensive questioning regarding the alleged financial misconduct linked to the 2023 budget of the Ministry of Women Affairs.
Preliminary investigations indicate a breach of due process in the ministry’s budgetary disbursement, with funds allegedly siphoned from women-focused initiatives, including the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative.
An EFCC insider disclosed, “The former Minister is being interrogated over her alleged role in the fraudulent diversion of public funds meant for women’s empowerment programs.”
Additionally, Ohanenye is under scrutiny for other alleged financial infractions, including violations of procurement laws and the unauthorized use of public funds.
EFCC Witness Contradicts Self in High-Profile Money Laundering Case
Meanwhile, in a separate development, a prosecution witness in the trial of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mohammed, has contradicted his earlier testimony in court. Mohammed Jidda, testifying before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, claimed that the ex-minister paid him a dollar equivalent of ₦200 million for a five-bedroom property in Wuse, Abuja.
However, under cross-examination, the defense presented Jidda’s initial written statement to the EFCC, in which he previously stated, “I sold one of my properties at No. 12 Lungi Street, Wuse II, Abuja, to Samson Bittrus.”
Saleh Mohammed is facing a 12-count charge of conspiracy to commit money laundering amounting to ₦33.8 billion, linked to the controversial Mambilla Power Project.
As investigations and legal proceedings unfold, both cases highlight the EFCC’s intensified crackdown on financial misconduct among high-profile public officials.
