EFCC Arrests Ex-Lawmaker Muhammad Kazaure in Kano, Flies Him to Abuja

0

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former member of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Gudaji Kazaure, in Kano.

Kazaure, who represented the Kazaure, Roni, Gwiwa, and Yankwashi Federal Constituency of Jigawa State between 2015 and 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC), was reportedly invited to the EFCC’s Kano zonal office earlier this week. Upon honoring the invitation, he was taken into custody and flown to Abuja on Wednesday.

While the exact reason for his arrest remains undisclosed, sources suggest it may be linked to past allegations and controversies involving the former lawmaker. Kazaure has been a vocal critic of corruption and previously accused former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, of mismanaging over N89 trillion in stamp duty proceeds—a claim the CBN formally denied in December 2022.

Despite widespread speculation surrounding the circumstances of his detention, the EFCC has yet to release an official statement. When contacted for comments, the EFCC’s Kano spokesperson, Idris Nadabo, declined to speak on the matter, referring all inquiries to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Efforts to obtain more details are ongoing as the story develops.
