The Edo State House of Assembly has approved a budget of N676 billion for the state’s 2025 fiscal year, marking a significant increase from the N605 billion initially proposed by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

The approval, granted during a plenary session on Monday, followed the presentation of a detailed report by the House Committee on Appropriation, Budget, and Project Monitoring. The committee, chaired by Sunday Fada (PDP, Esan Central constituency), recommended the N72 billion increment to support the governor’s ambitious five-point agenda.

In his report, Fada explained that the revised budget prioritizes both recurrent and capital expenditures. Recurrent expenditure was marginally increased from N223 billion to N225 billion, while capital expenditure saw a more significant adjustment, rising from N381 billion to N451 billion.

The House Committee on Supply further reviewed the estimates in a clause-by-clause consideration before approving the final figure of N676 billion.

Governor Okpebholo initially presented the budget proposal on December 10, 2024, under the theme “Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo.” The increased allocation is expected to strengthen developmental efforts across the state, aligning with the administration’s strategic objectives for 2025.

This approval highlights the Assembly’s commitment to fostering growth and ensuring adequate resources for the execution of key projects in Edo State.
