The Edo State Government has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Barrister Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the last governorship election, and other officials of the previous administration to return government vehicles allegedly in their possession.
Chairman of the Government Assets Recovery Committee, Kelly Okungbowa, made this announcement on Tuesday, following directives from Governor Monday Okpebholo to reclaim state assets.
Okungbowa revealed that vehicles belonging to the defunct state transport company, Edo Line, were allegedly sold off and some were found in a spare parts market in Benin City. He emphasized the government’s resolve to recover the assets, noting that the vehicles belong to the people of Edo State.
“We want to appeal to the PDP candidate, Barrister Asue Ighodalo, his running mate, and others, to do the right thing by returning these vehicles,” Okungbowa said. “The governor has directed us to redistribute recovered vehicles to state agencies.”
The committee disclosed that some vehicles had been traced to Lagos, Abuja, and Abeokuta and warned of further action if the vehicles are not returned within the stipulated time.
“We are giving them 72 hours to comply. If they fail to do so, we will take the necessary legal steps,” Okungbowa added.
