The Edo State Government has suspended its Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, alongside the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani, due to allegations of serious official and financial misconduct.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Musa Ikhilor, in a statement issued on Thursday morning from Benin City, the state capital.

According to Ikhilor, the suspension is pending the conclusion of a full investigation into the allegations. He emphasized that the move would allow for a thorough inquiry into the accusations of financial infractions against the two top officials.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has also approved the formation of an Investigative Committee tasked with reviewing the allegations and providing appropriate recommendations.

This suspension comes less than three months after Osagie and Lawani were appointed to their respective roles, highlighting the seriousness of the accusations.

The investigation is expected to clarify the matter and determine the next steps in this unfolding issue.
