The Ebonyi State Executive Council has sanctioned a N2 billion scholarship fund for 597 students to pursue their education in various Nigerian universities. This substantial funding will cover school fees, research expenses, and living costs.
Engr. Jude Chikadiba, the state’s Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, announced the decision during a press briefing detailing the outcomes of this week’s executive council meeting.
Chikadiba emphasized that the research funds would be disbursed directly to the universities along with the school fees to prevent any potential mismanagement by the beneficiaries.
He also highlighted that eligible civil servants who receive the scholarship will be granted study leave with pay, along with additional benefits.
“In the area of tertiary education, the state executive council approved the list of 597 successful candidates to study in Nigerian universities as submitted by the State Scholarship Board. Over N2 billion was approved by the EXCO,” Chikadiba stated.
“This amount covers school fees, research funding, and living expenses of the beneficiaries. The research funds will be paid to the universities alongside the school fees to avoid mismanagement by the beneficiaries. Additionally, any civil servant who meets the eligibility criteria for the scholarship program will be granted study leave with pay, along with other privileges.”
This significant investment in education underscores Ebonyi State’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and supporting the educational aspirations of its citizens.
