The Ebonyi State Government has commenced the long-awaited demarcation of the boundary between Abomege and Ishinkwo communities in Onicha Local Government Area, aiming to end a conflict that dates back to 1912.
A viral Facebook video shared by the Public Relations Officer of Onicha LGA, Omenkannaya Orogwu, shows earth-moving equipment at work under the supervision of the local government chairman, Ikechukwu Ogbuoffia, with security agents present.
Orogwu, who highlighted the deep-rooted hostilities between the two communities, claimed that the conflict has led to the loss of over 1,000 lives.
“This marks the beginning of a historic resolution for the Abomege and Ishinkwo people,” he stated in the video. “Many administrations have attempted but failed to take this bold step. Today, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, in collaboration with the Chairman of Onicha LGA, is making history by ensuring a lasting peace.”
He urged residents to support the government’s peace efforts and emphasized that the administration is committed to restoring stability across the state.
