The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly rejected claims suggesting that Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru will step down after a single term in 2027. The party described such assertions as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the APC’s Publicity Secretary, Ogbuatu Chidi Simbad, emphasized that there was never any agreement for Governor Nwifuru to relinquish his position after four years, countering rumors aimed at destabilizing the political climate.
“Let this be clear: Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is not leaving after four years. There was no agreement to the contrary, and any such claim is false and misleading,” Ogbuatu stated.
He further reinforced that no governor in Ebonyi State’s history has served just one term, calling on the public to disregard the “imaginations” of those who are trying to create confusion. According to Ogbuatu, the party’s strength lies in unity, peace, and good governance, not in intimidation or force.
“We will not be distracted by these baseless claims,” Ogbuatu said. “The APC’s strength in Ebonyi is built on unity and good governance, and Governor Nwifuru’s administration is committed to the continued growth and development of the state.”
The statement also commended Governor Nwifuru for his leadership and vision, noting that under his administration, Ebonyi State is making significant strides toward greater economic and infrastructural development.
Ogbuatu also acknowledged the efforts of the State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, who has been engaging with aggrieved members across the 13 local government areas and 171 wards, assuring them of ongoing reconciliation and inclusivity within the party.
