Drama as Obasa Supporters Sing APC Anthem in Police Van After Impeachment

Supporters of Mudashiru Obasa, the recently impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, caused a stir on Monday when they sang the All Progressives Congress (APC) anthem, “On Your Mandate,” while detained in a police van.

Obasa, a three-term lawmaker representing Agege Constituency I, was removed from office over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power. His impeachment marks the end of his tenure as Speaker, a position he held since 2015.

In the wake of the impeachment, Mojisola Meranda, the former deputy speaker, was elected as Obasa’s successor.

Following the dramatic turn of events, a group of men reportedly loitering near the Lagos Assembly complex were taken into custody by the police. A viral video showed the detained individuals, speaking through the shutters of the police van, expressing their discontent.

“We came down to the assembly to visit Obasa, and they arrested us,” one man said. “A tangible reason has not been given for apprehending us. We are about 20 people from Orile Agege. We are APC youths.”

The group claimed to be APC members from Agege Constituency and maintained that their presence at the assembly complex was to show solidarity with the ousted Speaker. Despite their detention, they broke into the APC anthem, emphasizing their unwavering support for Obasa.

The incident has sparked conversations about the fallout from Obasa’s impeachment and its implications for the political dynamics within the Lagos State House of Assembly.
