Delta Offers $30K to Passengers After Fiery Toronto Crash Landing

Delta Air Lines will compensate each passenger with $30,000 following a harrowing crash landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport earlier this week. The airline confirmed the gesture on Wednesday, emphasizing that it comes with “no strings attached” and does not impact passengers’ legal rights.

The Minneapolis-bound Bombardier CRJ-900 slammed into the runway on Monday, flipping upside down before skidding to a fiery halt. Despite the dramatic scene—engulfed in flames and thick black smoke—all 80 people on board survived.

Twenty-one passengers sustained injuries ranging from back sprains and head trauma to anxiety and headaches. As of Wednesday morning, only one individual remained hospitalized.

Shocking footage verified by AFP captured the plane’s rough landing, showing it hitting the tarmac hard before its wings were torn off and it came to rest on its roof.

Canada’s Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the incident, working alongside the US Federal Aviation Administration, Delta, and Mitsubishi—the current owner of the CRJ aircraft line.

The Toronto crash adds to a troubling series of recent North American air disasters, including a deadly midair collision in Washington and a medical transport plane crash in Philadelphia.
