A massive crowd of enthusiastic supporters has converged at the Ihima residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the lawmaker representing Kogi Central in the National Assembly, eagerly awaiting her arrival despite the Kogi State Government’s recent ban on political gatherings.
Waving placards and chanting in solidarity, the crowd’s presence defies the government directive issued on Monday, which cited security concerns as the reason for prohibiting public assemblies. The highly anticipated homecoming event is being broadcast live on AIT and other electronic media outlets.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, undeterred by the government’s stance, took to social media on Tuesday to issue a stern warning, holding Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello accountable should violence occur during her planned Sallah celebrations.
In a post on her verified Facebook page, she reassured supporters of her commitment to a peaceful visit while expressing concerns over potential disruptions. “My dear people of Kogi Central, I look forward to our PEACEFUL Sallah celebrations today. However, should we be met with or infiltrated by violence, Nigerians should hold Gov Ododo, Yahaya Bello & SP Godswill Akpabio wholly responsible,” the lawmaker wrote.
Despite circulating rumors suggesting the cancellation of her visit, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s team has confirmed that the event remains on schedule, dismissing the claims as false and urging supporters to disregard them.
Adding to the already charged atmosphere, the Chairman of Okehi Local Government, Hon. Amoka Eneji, declared a curfew on Tuesday, raising fresh concerns over freedom of movement and assembly within the area.
With tensions escalating and political stakes high, all eyes remain on Ihima as Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters await her homecoming amid heightened security measures.
