In a decisive move to combat banditry in Nigeria’s Northwest, the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, has issued a firm directive to the troops of Operation Fansar Yamma to capture notorious bandits’ leader, Turji, dead or alive. The order was delivered on Thursday during the minister’s visit to the One Brigade Headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State, where he met with military personnel engaged in the ongoing counterterrorism efforts.

Speaking to the troops, Abubakar praised the progress made in recent months under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, noting significant strides in the fight against bandits. “President Tinubu has recognised the improvements in the battle against terrorism in this region, but the job is far from over,” he said.

Acknowledging the persistent threats posed by bandits in Zamfara and surrounding areas, the defence minister conveyed President Tinubu’s appreciation for the military’s hard work while reinforcing the administration’s commitment to providing whatever resources are necessary to end the crisis. He urged the troops to double down on their efforts, emphasizing the need to bring Turji to justice.

“President Tinubu has asked me to personally thank you and assure you that he’s committed to supporting this fight against insecurity,” Abubakar stated. “Now is the time to intensify your efforts. Are you ready to finish them off? Get me Turji, dead or alive!”

Abubakar was welcomed by Major General Oluyinka Soyele, Commander of the Joint Taskforce Northwest Operation Fansar Yamma, alongside Zamfara State Deputy Governor Malam Mani Mummuni, as he received detailed briefings on the military’s progress in tackling banditry in the region.
