BORNO STATE — Tragedy struck again on Wednesday afternoon as a roadside bomb explosion claimed the lives of four travellers along the Damboa-Maiduguri highway in Borno State. Several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the attack.
The explosion reportedly occurred around 3:00 p.m., involving a passenger vehicle with an unconfirmed number of occupants. Eyewitnesses say the bomb detonated as the car approached a vulnerable section of the road, a route notoriously known for repeated insurgent attacks.
This latest incident follows a similar attack just weeks ago along the same highway, which left seven people dead. The Damboa-Maiduguri road remains a high-risk zone, often targeted by terrorists who plant explosive devices to instill fear and deter movement.
Security operatives have yet to officially confirm the incident as of the time this report was filed. Authorities are expected to provide updates as investigations continue.
The recurring violence on this key route raises concerns about the safety of commuters and the effectiveness of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the region.
