David Mark, Aregbesola Sworn In as ADC Interim Leaders, Pledge Reforms and Inclusivity

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially inaugurated former Senate President David Mark as its Interim National Chairman and former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola as Interim National Secretary.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Tuesday during the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

In his inaugural address, Senator Mark pledged to prioritize internal democracy, transparency, and inclusivity, vowing to reserve 35 per cent of party leadership positions for women and ensure active participation of youths under the age of 40.

“I assure you that under my leadership, we shall be committed to full democratic practices and principles that abhor imposition and special privileges. Internal democracy, transparency, and accountability will be our mantra,” Mark stated.

The former military administrator of Niger State also announced the establishment of a 50-member Policy Committee tasked with reviewing the party’s manifesto and proposing reforms in key areas of governance and national development.

On his part, outgoing chairman Ralph Nwosu commended the ADC’s resilience in the face of political pressure and financial inducements, asserting that the party stood firm against efforts to derail Nigeria’s democratic process.

“ADC said no to dictatorship. We stood our ground for democracy,” Nwosu declared.

In a significant development, the NEC also passed a motion to dissolve the former National Working Committee (NWC) and Board of Trustees (BoT), granting the new leadership full executive powers until new congresses are conducted. All previously expelled members were reinstated, with the exception of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu.

The reshuffle marks a major turning point for the ADC as it positions itself for renewed national relevance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
