Dangote Group Confirms Truck Accident That Crushed Phyna’s Sister, Promises Full Support and Compensation

AUCHI, EDO STATE — The Dangote Group has confirmed that one of its trucks was involved in a ghastly accident that severely injured Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, in Auchi, Edo State.

The company, in a statement released via its official X account on Thursday, assured the public that it will provide full support, including comprehensive medical care and compensation, in accordance with its welfare policy.

The accident, which occurred on August 13, 2025, left Ruth with life-changing injuries, leading to the amputation of both legs. Phyna, in an emotional post on social media, called for justice, sparking widespread outrage and solidarity from celebrities, including Nollywood star Kate Henshaw.

According to the company, senior officials from Dangote Cement Plc and its insurance team immediately visited the accident scene, met with law enforcement, and went to Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State, where Ruth is receiving treatment.

“Following the recent road accident in Auchi involving one of our trucks, which sadly resulted in injury to Mrs. Ruth Otabor, our team promptly engaged with authorities and visited the victim and her family,” the statement read.

“We are ensuring full support for Mrs. Otabor, including comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation. Our thoughts remain with her and her loved ones, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery.”

The incident has reignited public concern over the recurring accidents involving Dangote trucks on Nigerian roads.
