“CSO Hails Wike as a Key Asset to Tinubu’s Administration”

The Centre for Transparency and Accountability (CTA) has praised Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, calling him a significant asset to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government. The civil society group highlighted Wike’s impressive work ethic, which has already led to the completion of several key projects, including road networks across the FCT, during his first year in office.

Moses Adam, the president of the CTA, commended President Tinubu for prioritizing competence over political affiliations by appointing Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, to head the FCT portfolio. “It’s rare for a president to choose a minister from outside his party’s fold, but President Tinubu did it, and Nigeria is better for it,” Adam remarked during a press briefing in Abuja.

Adam emphasized the transformation in the FCT under Wike’s leadership, noting that areas previously plagued by insecurity are becoming safer. He compared Wike’s approach to the era of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, when satellite towns experienced government attention. “Today, Wike has restored our faith in the capital’s potential, focusing not just on the city center but also on neglected satellite communities,” Adam said.

Wike’s achievements in the FCT so far include extensive road construction and rehabilitation, the establishment of new parks, the relocation of businesses, and the revitalization of Abuja’s light rail services. Adam contrasted Wike’s progress with the stagnation during the previous administration, stating, “For eight years, there was little to no visible progress. In just over a year, Wike’s impact is evident everywhere.”

Adam also highlighted Wike’s efforts to support security agencies, noting that improved night patrols by the police have reduced crime rates in the FCT. He thanked the 10th National Assembly for their cooperation with the executive in passing the 2024 statutory and supplementary budgets for the FCT, attributing part of the success to their partnership.

The CSO urged lawmakers to continue working in harmony with the executive to ensure the continued development and safety of the nation’s capital.
