CP-PDP to Tinubu: Drop Second Term Ambition, Nigerians Are Ready to Vote You Out in 2027

The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to abandon any thoughts of seeking re-election in 2027, asserting that Nigerians are determined to vote him out due to the administration’s perceived failures and worsening hardship.

The Pro-PDP group, in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by its Protem National Coordinator, Obinna Nwachukwu, stated that the President should not entertain the idea of retaining office beyond May 29, 2027. The group argued that citizens are resolved not to reward failure with re-election or allow electoral manipulation to shape the outcome of the next presidential election.

Nwachukwu also addressed President Tinubu’s recent remarks, in which the President allegedly admitted to consenting to the removal of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) at the request of the FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike. The CP-PDP described this decision as a politically motivated move aimed at securing electoral control in the FCT, a region traditionally dominated by the PDP.

The statement emphasized that despite the ruling party’s alleged attempts at electoral manipulation and coercion, the APC will not be able to take over the FCT, which remains a PDP stronghold. According to Nwachukwu, the FCT has consistently demonstrated its loyalty to the PDP, as evidenced by the party’s victory in the 2023 presidential election and its dominance at the council level, with 42 councilors and three chairmen, compared to the APC’s three chairmen and 20 councilors.

The CP-PDP expressed concerns over what it described as ongoing harassment, land grabbing, and vindictive property revocations reportedly targeting perceived APC opponents in the FCT. The group also condemned the alleged reckless and opaque financial practices that followed the removal of the FCT from the TSA, warning that the move undermines transparency and accountability in public finance management.

The conference called for an open public investigation into the financial activities of the FCTA under Chief Wike’s leadership, particularly in light of the controversial decision to remove the FCT from the TSA.

Furthermore, the CP-PDP criticized the administration’s focus on political dominance rather than governance, accusing it of neglecting pressing national issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, and social instability since Tinubu took office on May 29, 2023.

The group concluded by affirming that Nigerians are resolute in their decision not to support an administration they perceive as having failed, both in the FCT and nationally, come the 2027 general elections.
