Akure, Ondo State — July 31, 2025
The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure has upheld the election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, reaffirming his victory in the last Ondo State governorship election.
The appellate court, in a unanimous judgment delivered on Wednesday, dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Agboola Ajayi, challenging Aiyedatiwa’s emergence as winner of the election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Governor Aiyedatiwa, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was earlier declared winner by the Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which dismissed the opposition’s petition for lack of merit.
In its ruling, the Court of Appeal affirmed the findings of the tribunal, stating that the petitioners failed to prove the allegations of electoral malpractice and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
The judgment is seen as a major victory for the APC in the state and a final seal on the legitimacy of Aiyedatiwa’s mandate.
