‘Come See for Yourself’ — Nnamdi Kanu Welcomes Public to DSS

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has applauded the recent Kenyan High Court ruling that declared his 2021 extradition to Nigeria unlawful. In the spirit of transparency, Kanu has now extended an open invitation to members of the public wishing to visit him at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility where he is currently detained.

The development was made known by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, on Friday following his routine legal visit to the separatist leader.

Recall that Kanu was rearrested in June 2021 and subsequently subjected to extraordinary rendition from Kenya to Nigeria — a move that sparked global criticism and legal challenges. However, on June 24, 2024, a Kenyan High Court sitting in Nairobi ruled that the rendition was both illegal and unconstitutional.

In response to the judgment, Kanu expressed deep appreciation to his legal team and family members for what he described as a “landmark victory.”

Taking to social media, Ejimakor shared:
“Rising from today’s visitation, MAZI NNAMDI KANU took the opportunity to hail his lawyers & siblings for the stunning victory from Kenya. He also extended an open invitation to anybody (who is in doubt about his messages thru his lawyers) to personally pay him a visit at the DSS.”

Kanu’s statement comes amid ongoing legal battles and growing calls for his release.
