Former Governor of Abia State and serving Senator, Theodore Orji, has issued a sharp rebuttal to his successor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, urging him to take full responsibility for his tenure and desist from making “careless statements” about others.
Senator Orji’s reaction comes in the wake of comments credited to Ikpeazu during a recent event in Abuja, where the former governor described elected leaders who blame their predecessors as “lazy leaders.” Ikpeazu also reportedly claimed that he inherited a “gloomy” Abia State in 2015.
In a swift response delivered through his former Liaison Officer and Senior Aide, Hon. Ifeanyi Umere, Orji, popularly known as Ochendo Global, condemned Ikpeazu for what he described as contradictory remarks.
“It is ironic that Dr. Ikpeazu condemns leaders who blame their predecessors, yet in the same breath criticises his own,” Umere said on behalf of the Senator. “He should carry his cross and take full responsibility for the decisions and shortcomings of his administration.”
Orji noted that governance is not about trading blame or delivering empty speeches, but about concrete actions and accountability.
He called on his successor to stop diverting attention from his own administration’s record, emphasizing that every leader must own both the successes and failures of their time in office.
This exchange adds a new layer to the ongoing political tensions in Abia State’s leadership circle, spotlighting the growing friction between former allies turned critics.
