Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has called for the immediate cancellation of the ongoing local government elections, citing widespread irregularities and what she described as a deliberate attempt to manipulate the process in favour of a particular political party.
Addressing journalists on Saturday morning, Bucknor-Akerele voiced serious concerns over the credibility and transparency of the exercise, alleging that several eligible voters—including herself—were unable to find their names on the voter register at their designated polling units.
“When you get to your unit, they say they already have a list of names. I visited my polling unit, and my name was not on the list,” she lamented.
The former deputy governor also claimed there were reports of disruptions at various polling centres and accused election officials of intentionally disenfranchising voters.
“I am calling for the cancellation of this election because there is a deliberate and coordinated effort to rig it in favour of one party,” she stated.
Her comments come amid growing scrutiny over the conduct of the local government elections, with many voters expressing frustration over logistical challenges and concerns of fairness.
