The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, has urged Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to cancel her planned Sallah rally in the Central Senatorial District. This request follows a security threat assessment and the state government’s recent ban on political gatherings.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya, the Kogi police cited intelligence reports indicating a potential disturbance. The police warned that hoodlums may attempt to hijack the rally, which could lead to a breakdown of peace in the state.
“The Kogi State Police Command has advised the organisers of the planned rally in Okene to cancel the event in order to maintain the current peace in the state,” the statement read. “Any actions that jeopardize law and order will not be tolerated.”
Despite the government’s ban and the police’s concerns, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has insisted on going ahead with her event. She emphasized that the rally is part of her Eid al-Fitr celebrations, aimed at reconnecting with her constituents in the region.
