The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as its National Secretary, following a high-stakes decision reached by key stakeholders within the party.
At a press briefing held on Wednesday, the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, announced the resolution, flanked by prominent party leaders including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Damagum described the decision as a “critical” and “challenging” one, noting that it was thoroughly debated and ultimately endorsed by a majority within the party’s leadership structure, including the National Working Committee (NWC) and other major organs.
“Anyanwu is resuming as the National Secretary. That is why I said it was a critical decision,” Damagum stated. “Like INEC said, they don’t have our notice. So what we will have on June 30th is an extended Caucus.”
He further revealed that the previously scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting has been cancelled. In its place, the party will convene an expanded caucus meeting, during which a date for a proper NEC meeting will be determined.
The reinstatement of Anyanwu marks a significant moment in the ongoing reorganization efforts within the PDP, as the party positions itself for internal unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
