The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has officially activated its Standby Force to tackle terrorism and transborder crimes across the region.
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, made the announcement on Tuesday during the 43rd Ordinary Meeting of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff in Abuja.
The deployment underscores the regional bloc’s commitment to enhancing security and stability in West Africa amid growing threats from insurgent groups and criminal networks.
