Pascal Gabriel Dozie, renowned Nigerian entrepreneur, economist, and founder of the defunct Diamond Bank Plc, has passed away at the age of 85.
Family sources confirmed that the business titan died in the early hours of Tuesday, April 8, 2025 — just a day before his 86th birthday — following a battle with an age-related illness.
Dozie, widely celebrated for his visionary leadership in Nigeria’s financial sector, also served as the former chairman of MTN Nigeria, playing a pivotal role in the telecom giant’s rise in the country.
He founded Diamond Bank in 1990, steering it into one of Nigeria’s most innovative and customer-focused banks before its merger with Access Bank in 2019. After years at the helm, he handed over the reins to his son, Uzoma Dozie, continuing the family legacy in banking and finance.
