The National Industrial Court in Lagos has ordered the immediate reinstatement of Olalekan Onafeko as Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly following his controversial removal.
Justice delivered the ruling after hearing an ex parte application filed by Onafeko’s counsel, Yusuf Nurudeen, against the Lagos State Government, Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, the Speaker of the House, the Attorney-General of Lagos State, and Mr. Ottun Babatunde.
Onafeko was dismissed from his position on January 13, shortly after the ousting of former Speaker Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, who was replaced by the then Deputy Speaker, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda. Following Obasa’s removal, Onafeko was also relieved of his duties, and Babatunde Ottun was appointed as acting clerk.
In the suit marked NICN/LA/23/2025, Onafeko sought an interim injunction to stop the defendants from recognizing any individual, including Ottun, as clerk, pending the hearing of a motion for an interlocutory injunction.
The ruling temporarily halts Ottun’s appointment and reinstates Onafeko until further proceedings.
