Borno State Bans Street Hawking, Illegal Activities in Maiduguri Metropolis

0

The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) has enforced a ban on street hawking and other illegal activities within Maiduguri metropolis. The directive, issued on Friday by the Board’s General Manager, Limán Mustapha, aims to promote a cleaner, safer, and more organized urban environment in the state capital.

The ban, in line with the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002, prohibits a range of activities. These include street hawking, the operation of tricycles, and generator repair activities in areas surrounding the Post Office and Monday Market. Furthermore, the board has outlawed the use of pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts for commercial activities, alongside the sale of engine oil on road reserves. The mixing of cement, the dumping of sand or building materials on public roads, and the construction of boreholes along roadsides are also prohibited.

In a bid to ensure compliance, the General Manager emphasized that those affected by the ban must vacate the occupied sites immediately. He warned that defaulters would face arrest and prosecution in a court of law.

Mustapha called on residents and business owners to adhere to the new regulations, stressing the importance of maintaining a clean and orderly environment for the benefit of all.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to urban development and public safety in Maiduguri.
