The Borno State Police Command has arrested 210 suspects and confiscated a significant cache of hard drugs and weapons in a weeklong security operation aimed at curbing criminal activities in the state.

Commissioner of Police, Naziru AbdulMajid, disclosed the development during a press briefing on Friday at the Command Headquarters in Maiduguri. He said the crackdown, which ran from June 11 to 18, involved a series of coordinated operations, including raids, surveillance, stop-and-search efforts, and targeted enforcement against handset snatching, youth gangsterism, thuggery, and drug abuse.

According to AbdulMajid, 86 of the 210 suspects have already been convicted, while 124 others are currently under investigation.

Items recovered during the operations include:

58 sachets of tramadol

175 exzol tablets

130 D5 tablets

395 wraps and 1kg of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp

28 ermo tablets

10 bottles of drug syrup

19 shisha pots and pipes

Nine knives

Two customised antelope horns

The CP attributed the success of the operations to the efforts of the Rapid Response Squad Social Vices Unit, a joint task force comprising police personnel and operatives from other security agencies.

He praised the dedication and courage of the officers involved and commended the Borno State Government for revitalising and equipping the RRS unit. He also extended appreciation to the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hauwa Abubakar, for facilitating prompt prosecution of the suspects.

AbdulMajid urged residents to actively support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities and sharing actionable intelligence.

“Let me be clear, the Police Command in Borno under my watch will not tolerate criminal elements or their unlawful activities,” he warned. “Those engaging in illicit acts must desist immediately or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.”

The Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining the fight against crime and ensuring a safer Borno State for all.
