At least two more victims of the bomb attacks in Gwoza town, Borno State, have succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.
This update was provided by the Acting Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, during a hospital visit on Sunday. He informed reporters that out of the 42 injured victims admitted to the hospital, 16 have been discharged, while 24 are still receiving medical care.
Governor Kadafur assured that the state government had covered the medical expenses of the victims and is committed to ensuring they receive adequate medical attention. He emphasized the necessity of continuing the fight against insurgency and terrorism, despite the recent attacks.
“The state government strongly condemns these attacks on our people,” Kadafur stated. He noted that the attackers exploited a lapse in vigilance brought on by the relative peace recently enjoyed in the state. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to security personnel to prevent future incidents.
Kadafur was accompanied to the hospital by Senate Chief Whip, Senator Ali Ndume, National Assembly member Ahmadu Jaha (representing Damboa, Gwoza, and Chibok Federal Constituency), and other government officials.
In a related development, President Tinubu condemned the Borno suicide attacks and promised decisive action against the perpetrators.
