Boko Haram Fighters Mobilize for Possible Clash with ISWAP in Borno State

0

There are indications of a potential confrontation in Borno State as Boko Haram fighters, also known as Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad (JAS), have been observed mobilizing toward an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) stronghold.

According to security sources, the insurgents were spotted traveling in water vessels from the Loko Libi and Darak areas along the Nigeria-Cameroon border. The fighters, heavily armed, are reportedly heading toward Marte Local Government Area, believed to be ISWAP’s operational headquarters in the region.

This development signals a possible clash between the rival factions, both of which have been responsible for significant violence in the Lake Chad area.

The movement comes just two weeks after an unsuccessful attempt at reconciliation between Boko Haram and its breakaway faction, ISWAP. Following the breakdown of peace efforts, hostilities resumed in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, raising concerns about escalating violence in the region.

Security agencies are closely monitoring the situation as tensions continue to rise in the area.
