A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s recent trip to France, describing it as insensitive to the nation’s ongoing security challenges.
In a statement titled “Whither Nigeria, My Beloved Country” and personally signed by the former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, George expressed his displeasure over what he termed a disregard for the plight of Nigerians.
He lamented that at a time when citizens feel increasingly unsafe, the Federal Government and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) appear more focused on trivial political matters, such as the reinstatement of suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
“Today, and with the series of crises, insecurity, hunger, joblessness, and other vices in the country, President Bola Tinubu has taken off to Paris, France, for reasons best known to him and his handlers,” George stated.
The PDP stalwart further criticized the administration’s priorities, stating that “Nigerians don’t feel safe anymore in their fatherland, but the Federal Government, APC, and the Senate are only interested in recalling Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. What a shame!”
He warned that the current administration risks repeating the mistakes that led to the collapse of Nigeria’s First and Second Republics, echoing sentiments expressed in legendary musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s lyrics.
President Tinubu departed Nigeria for France on Wednesday, with his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, stating that the president is expected to return to the country in about two weeks.
