Bode George Slams Atiku, Obi Over ADC Alliance: “They’re Boarding a Sinking Ship”

A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has expressed deep concern over the recent alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as “shocking and disappointing.”

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, George criticized the defection of top PDP figures, particularly Atiku, to the ADC — a party he described as “a sinking ship.”

“Those who created the PDP crisis are the same ones now abandoning the party,” he said. “It is shocking to see Atiku and Obi jumping into a ship that is already sinking.”

George maintained that despite the current turbulence within the PDP, the party remains resolute and is preparing for a strong comeback. He disclosed that the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting is scheduled for the coming week, where crucial decisions regarding the party’s convention and strategic direction will be finalized.

“We will approve all the committees that will handle the convention,” he stated. “The fact that we are able to convene such a meeting shows that the Iroko tree has been resurrected.”

Atiku Abubakar officially announced his departure from the PDP on Wednesday, citing the party’s persistent internal crisis and endorsing a new political alliance through the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.

The unfolding development signals a major shake-up in Nigeria’s opposition landscape as political realignments gather momentum in the countdown to 2027.
