The tragic saga of Israeli hostage Shiri Bibas has taken a devastating turn, as conflicting reports deepen the mystery surrounding her fate.
Hamas claimed that Bibas’s remains were destroyed and mixed with other bodies in the rubble following an Israeli airstrike on the location where she was allegedly held. Hamas official Ismail al-Thawabteh asserted that Bibas’s body was “turned into pieces” and repeated the group’s claim that Israel was responsible for her death.
For over a year, Hamas has maintained that Bibas and her two sons, Ariel and Kfir, were killed in an Israeli airstrike. However, Israeli officials revealed overnight that the remains of Ariel and Kfir had been positively identified, confirming that the children were murdered by their captors while in captivity.
In a further twist, the remains Hamas recently handed over in a coffin labeled with Bibas’s face were identified by Israeli forensic experts at Abu Kabir as those of an unidentified Gazan woman, not Bibas. DNA testing confirmed no match to Bibas or any other female hostages still held by Hamas, leaving the true fate of Shiri Bibas heartbreakingly uncertain.
