Suspected armed herdsmen on Sunday night launched a deadly attack on a commercial vehicle travelling along the Otukpo-Adoka road, killing the driver and abducting all passengers on board.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 11 p.m., involved a vehicle en route from Abuja to Otukpo. According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers emerged from hiding and opened fire on sighting the vehicle, fatally hitting the driver. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into nearby bushes before coming to a halt.
After halting the vehicle, the assailants forcefully abducted all passengers and abandoned the vehicle at the scene. The body of the deceased driver, identified as an indigene of Adoka, has since been recovered and taken to his hometown for burial.
Military personnel have since arrived at the scene and launched a manhunt to track down the perpetrators of the heinous crime. The authorities are yet to release an official statement on the number of abducted passengers or any rescue efforts underway.
The attack adds to the growing concern over rising insecurity in parts of Benue State, particularly along major travel routes.
