Benue State University, Makurdi, has officially been renamed Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM) following a new law enacted by the Benue State House of Assembly and signed by Governor Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia on December 30, 2024.
The renaming is a tribute to Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu, a visionary leader and the founding father of the institution, whose legacy in education and public service continues to inspire generations.
According to an official memorandum from the Office of the Registrar, the change is now legally in effect, and all documentation, communication, and official correspondence will reflect the new name: Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM).
The memo reads in part:
“The renaming reflects the decision and policy of the Benue State Government… The University will continue to uphold its mandate in delivering quality tertiary education under its new name.”
All principal officers, deans, directors, and heads of departments have been directed to implement the name change across all platforms and communications going forward.
This move marks a significant moment in Benue’s academic history and stands as a lasting tribute to Rev. Fr. Adasu’s enduring impact on education in the state.
