Makurdi, Nigeria — In response to Nigeria’s growing security challenges, the management of Benue Links Transport Company has issued a strong advisory to its drivers, urging them to remain security conscious and promote peace at all times.
The call was made by the company’s General Manager, Comrade Alexander Fanafa, during a security sensitization meeting at the company’s headquarters in Makurdi.
“We need peace in this country, and we must all preach peace, give out peace, invite peace, and live in harmony without discrimination—whether religious, ethnic, or tribal,” Fanafa said, emphasizing the critical role drivers play in national unity and safety.
According to him, the transport sector is particularly vulnerable to insecurity due to the constant movement of vehicles across the country. As such, drivers must take extra precautions, including remaining alert and watching their surroundings carefully.
Fanafa outlined several key security measures, including avoiding inflammatory conversations or jokes that could provoke unrest, and ensuring thorough inspection of all goods and waybills. He stressed that no waybill should be accepted without first confirming its contents, urging drivers to report any suspicious or counterfeit items to the nearest security agency or the company’s head office.
He further cautioned against night travel, recommending that if a trip cannot be completed during the day, drivers should seek shelter at the nearest police or military post to resume travel at daylight.
Additionally, Fanafa warned against transporting unidentified groups without prior clearance from the head office, reinforcing the company’s commitment to passenger and driver safety.
“Security is a collective responsibility,” he said. “We all have a role to play in supporting the Benue State Government under Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration to combat insecurity and stabilize the region.”
Fanafa concluded by assuring the public that Benue Links remains committed to ensuring safe and secure travel experiences for all its passengers across the country.
