Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has suspended his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning, Mr. Mkor Aondona, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mr. Aondona was reportedly apprehended by EFCC operatives over serious allegations including sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the suspension was described as immediate and indefinite, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

Governor Alia expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that his administration would not condone any form of criminal or unethical behavior by public officials.

“This administration was elected to serve with integrity and discipline,” the statement read. “Any official involved in acts capable of tarnishing the image of government or eroding public trust will be held accountable.”

The governor reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership. He stressed that public office holders must maintain the highest moral standards.

Governor Alia also emphasized his administration’s dedication to protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens, particularly women and vulnerable groups. He assured full cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is done.

The suspended aide is expected to cooperate fully with the EFCC and face the legal process without any interference from the state government.
